Evolutionary Biologist Reacts to Young Earth Creationist Arguments
Biological evolution is broadly accepted by the scientific community. That said, a large number of people and organizations, especially the Young Earth Creationists, are highly skeptical of evolution. Creationists frequently challenge the assertions of evolution, and evolution's legitimacy as a scientific theory. But do they have a point? Let's take a look at some of their most common arguments and see if they are valid, or if they are not.

  • @Jassiemouse

Clint, you seem like an amazing person. There's no issue at all with having beliefs and being a man of science. What I mean by that is your belief is a personal stance; it doesn't have to be nested in facts. That's why it's a belief. There's a lot of unanswered questions, observable and unobservable phenomena, etc. that happen around us all the time. Being a man of science more or less simply states that you know when facts are facts. God or not, it's still a fact.

fossils only show 1-5% of all existing species of its time.., so using fossils as evidence is difficult, but where it fits in, it supports Darwin, no?

50:56 "If the moment that life came to be was captured as a fossil, that would be the only fossil & there would be no life today." It's not necessarily true that life only was created once in the same why evolution doesn't happen to just one animal. Rather it may have happened uniformly, everywhere the conditions allowed. In that sense, we should be able to see evidence of 'proto-life' (which we do).

I'm angry at creationist and all other science deniers because they skip over details, misunderstood thus misrepresent science and disingenuous. While providing simplified explanations, which by default are winning because people prefer simple stuff. However I know shouting at them is only going to make to make them fall even deeper into that rabbit hole. Although I'm polite and kind I'm not entertaining any of their ideas or even give them the slightest hint of benefit of doubt but examine their theories through and through. These people are frankly problematic. Today it's the irrelevant origin of dogs, tomorrow it's antivax polio massacre on innocent kids...

I'm an atheist and I, too, push back against the idea that a persons belief (or lack thereof) in X immediately invalidates their positions on Y. I do this not for any other reason than I think that idea is demonstrably nonsensical. Its like saying, "If a person believes the earth is flat, then they clearly don't know how to change a tire." As far as I'm concerned, if you say you believe in God, then say a bunch of reasonable things about evolution, then you're a person who believes in God and says a bunch of reasonable things about evolution. These are not inherently overlapping majesteria - they can be _made_ to overlap, sure, and there are interesting conversations there. But to assume an overlap from the start is something I am wholly against. I am at least one atheist who isn't surprised that you believe in God, for whatever that's worth.

The true biologists understand that adaptation is always based on epigenetic mechanisms or factors. If they don't, then it's time to learn modern science. Then they will also understand that epigenetic regulation causes chemical stress on genomes' cytosine bases. A methylated cytosine is 20,000 more prone to turn to thymine than a non-methylated cytosine. This results in inevitable genetic degradation because the cell can't repair the CpG --> CpT transition if the cell has been replicated. The result is an AT-pair that replaces the previous GC-pair. Gradually the AT content of the genome increases resulting in several problems. The cell has only one mechanism to balance the GC-AT ratio: gBGC gene conversion. In this DNA rearrangement procedure, information is ALWAYS lost. This is why genetic entropy is a biological fact. Evolution never happened. sciencerefutesevolution.blogspot.com/2024/06/causes-and-mechanisms-leading-to.html

This is arguably the most important series of videos on the subject of the Evolution vs Young Earth Creationism, specifically because you start off with the premise that you believe in the same God those Creationists do. I personally, and quite strongly, disagree with that belief, but I absolutely applaud your methods, explanations, and overall attitude here. Looking forward to any future installments so I can link this playlist to help better educate those who are confused on the subject.

About the lion and the house cat: Some of this discussion presumes that lions gave rise to house cats. But it could have gone the other way, and there was some implicit mention of that possibility. More likely, they evolved from a common ancestor. But for a moment, let’s suppose that it went from lion to house cat. As you mentioned, the obvious change is in size. That’s a change in information, not a loss. Another obvious difference would be the loss of a mane. But one possibility is that the mane was not lost; rather, a gene appeared that suppresses the growth of a mane. That’s gain in information. I got this idea from a similar situation regarding body hair on apes. We humans “lack” such hair. But I understand that genetics supports the idea that humans didn’t lose their body hair; they gained the suppression of body hair. That would count as a gain in information.

Speciation is just accumulated adaptation. What force tells adaptation or reproductive variation to stop, to avoid speciation? Accumulated small changes → large changes/speciation. Why would evolution have to 'add' information. First, genetic information gets added to or deleted al the time. Second change can be accomplished simply by rearranging the genes already present. I could take the letters from "War and Peace" and rearrange them into" A Tale of Two Cities" easily.

I'm sorry Clint, but evolution is not real. It's a false doctrine to make people doubt and not trust in Jesus Christ, the God of Israel. I used to be an atheist and believed in evolution, until I surrendered my life to the Lord Jesus Christ, Yeshua Hamasiach, on my 17th birthday October 4th, 2016. I knew God is real, but when my grandmother passed in 2010, I blamed God for her death and wanted nothing to do with him. When I did that, a youtube video popped up, explaining how dinosaurs are in the Bible. From there on I studied more and when I saw two living Pterodactylus antiquus fighting over a fish in Port Washington Blvd, in Long Island New York while I was in my school courtyard. The real moment when I wanted to be a Christian, my aunt Kim handed me a love letter from God and I cried my eyes out. So on my 17th birthday I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and as my real father. When my dad found out, he abused me, and threw me into group homes, drugged me up and threatened to have me killed if I did not denounce Jesus. I remembered the Bible verse, Whoever acknowledges me before man, I'll acknowledge him be fore my father who art in Heaven, Whoever disowns me before man, I disown before the father. So I chose Jesus over my dad because God did nothing wrong to me. Over the years I studied the scriptures extensively. and God revealed to me that Dinosaurs were on the ark as juveniles, survived the flood, repopulated the earth and are still flourishing with all the other animals to this very day both on the on the surface world, and in the Hollow Earth. God showed me in visions, some of the dinosaurs true colors. Allosaurus jimmadseni is Red for the base color, has black stripes like the Ceratosaurus nasicornis from Jurassic Park 3 and Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, and a cream colored underside. The Sinoceratops zhuchengensis colors are exactly the same from Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. And the Pteranodon longiceps I saw recently in March of 2023 was bronze in color, with a golden beak, and a blackish blue crest with a white lighting bolt stripe on both sides of the crest. God shown me enough evidence from the fossil record, his word, eye witness testimony and my own personal experience to show that he's real and that his word is true from the very first verse. It doesn't matter what worldly people, and those who hate Jesus say, it won't shake my faith that the God of Israel, the God I serve is real. I'm praying that Jesus shows you that I'm telling the truth. I love you brother, God bless you, and Shalom Shalom.

I believe in God, but not in the traditional sense. I think the human brain is just as vast as our galaxy. With that said, my "theory" is maybe God was a graduating from some type of cosmic university in genetic engineering billons of years ago and was offered a job in what we now know as the Milkway galaxy. This employer said, "Okay, kid, I've got this newly formed planet... lets see what you got." If that's the case- Wow! A+ in my book. The amount of genetic diversity, not only among humans in terms of race , culture, language and religion, but the vertebrates and invertebrates living among us is truely a gift from God. We are so lucky we get to live on planet Earth.

Science can neither prove or disprove God. Evolution doesn't disprove God. Jesus is still king. God is still in control and He is still sovereign over his creation. Just because a dinosaur turned into a bird. Doesn't mean that God isn't God.
